Hi there! I'm so glad you're here. My name is Meredith Busch-Yankovsky, and I am the founder and creator of Woman's Place Podcast. I started the podcast because I felt like so many women weren't aware of the history of when and how they came to possess their rights and so many didn't know that our rights are not enshrined in the constitution as many think. I wanted to create a space for reliable historical information to be put together. I accomplished that goal, and as a historian, I'm happy with what I created.
However, the world has changed since I started down this path, and my passion has also evolved. Since creating the podcast, I got married, had 2 kids, a fiesty toddler girl and a newborn boy, moved across the country, and changed roles at work. I also embarked on a PhD in history, which I finished, except for my dissertation. Will I come back to that? I sure hope so, but I felt like the more important thing for me and my family is my kids, and I think I'll come back to it when they're a bit older. Having kids has changed my perspective. Not in the way many people think having kids makes people change, become more conservative, etc. Instead, becoming a mother has lit a fire within me to fight for a better, safer, more equitable, more diverse, and more open-minded world.
And, with that fire, I've decided to take this podcast a different direction. We're still going to talk about women's rights and women's history. However, where I tried to take a more academic approach before, this time around, I am feeling more passionate about openly supporting the things I believe in, feminism, women's rights, intersectional interests, and a hope for a better future...a future that doesn't perpetuate existing power dynamics and structures rooted in patriarchy and supported by those who perpetuate America's founding myth and support the rise of theocracy. I had to make a change. It feels unacceptable to sit back and watch everything unfold without adding my voice and FACTS into the mix.
I went on a search for feminist book clubs, communities (that aren't Reddit, no offense) where women can support other women in their pursuit of equality and equity and discuss all kinds of women's issues, and a resource hub to learn more. I didn't find anything that quite lived up to what I wanted, so I am working to build out from Woman's Place podcast to create Woman's Place right here, where women can learn about their history, apply that knowledge to today's issues, fight against existing oppressive structures, and find solace in one another. So, with a reinvigorated excitement, I am here to forge ahead with Woman's Place. Join us for the ride! You'll learn things about history, about yourself, and hopefully find what you didn't know you needed.
Much Love,
Meredith
